Lucas LEGO© Challenge


An independent LEGO© Brick Building community tournament

Date: Saturday, August 29, 2026, in conjunction with the 52nd Lucas Adam’s Apple Festival.

Registration: Online pre-registration is required

Location: Lucas Golden Age Center, 210 S. Main St., Lucas, KS

Format: On-site, two-hour timed build

Theme: “U.S.A.” is the overall theme. A more specific subject will be drawn from a hat on the day of the event.

Team Divisions: Junior: under age 9; Intermediate: ages 10-16; Adult: ages 17+


Awards: Each participant receives a participation award. Division awards include a LEGO kit for Junior teams and cash or gift cards for Intermediate and Adult teams.



LEGO© Facebook Challenge: In July and August, join the “Adventures of Minifig” by

submitting photos of your LEGO© creations inspired by Grassroots Art Center artwork.


To build excitement for the August 29 th event, the Grassroots Art Center invites you to follow “The Adventures of Minifig” on Facebook during July and August.


Minifig will travel through the art center and stop beside a featured artwork. For the LEGO© Facebook Challenge, create your own LEGO© interpretation of that artwork, photograph it, and share it on our page. Every two weeks, Minifig will visit a new artwork, giving participants another chance to create and submit

an entry.


Please include your name, city, state, and age division: Junior, under 9; Intermediate, ages 10–16; or Adult, age 17 and older. Minifig’s adventures will culminate on August 31, and the Art Center will host a people’s choice contest in September.


This LEGO© Challenge can be completed in the comfort of your home.

Grassroots Art Center Brick Building Rules for August 29, 2026


1. Event status: This is an independent community tournament using LEGO© bricks and is not sponsored, authorized, or endorsed by the LEGO Group


2. Eligibility: Teams must compete in the correct age division. A participant may compete on only one team.


3. Team size: Junior and Intermediate teams may have 1-2 builders. In the Junior Division, participants may have an adult helper as one person. Adults may not build for Junior participants, but may help children with carrying, brainstorming, and safety. Adult division has 1 builder.


4. Original work: Models must be original creations.


5. No phone/Tablet/Computer use: Only reference pictures may be utilized in creation.


6. On-site build requirement: No pre-built models or subassemblies allowed


7. Materials: Each team/contestant will bring their own LEGO’s in a cardboard shoe box no larger than 13” x 8” x 5”. Only LEGO bricks/elements & approved LEGO© - compatible 10”x 10” maximum baseplate may be used. A free form build is acceptable.


8. Conduct: Participants may not touch another team’s model or pieces. Theft, damage, harassment, or unsafe behavior may result in disqualification.


9. Time Limit: Build time of 2 hours ends immediately when time is called. “Hands Off” means hands off.


10. Judging: Judges score 100-point rubric.

Creativity- 25 pts, Engineering/Stability - 20 pts,

Theme fit- 20 pts, Aesthetics/Detail- 15 pts, Presentation- 10 pts, and Teamwork/Process- 10 pts. Judge(s) decisions are final.


Responsibility for pieces: Participants are responsible for their own pieces. The

organizer is not responsible for lost or damaged bricks.


12. Photography: Photography of participants (with signed permission) will be used for educational and marketing purposes.
