About the event

Come to Lucas for the 8th Annual Lucas “APRIL FOOLS-A-PALOOZA” art day on April 1st.  Arts attractions and artists’ studios will be open, with special music and food available, so plan to spend all day in Lucas on April 1st.

There are two new additions to the Lucas Art scene this year. Leann Doljac’s Standing Dog Studio will be open 10 – 4 in the old Ford garage at 107 S Main. At 3:00 Erika Nelson will host a “Community Mural Progress Peek” at her new Woodpecker Archives, 209 S Main.  A full schedule of events with the map is available at the Grassroots Art Center, Switchgrass Art Cooperative, and the Lucas Community Center, where coffee will be served at 9 AM. Art vendors and a concession stand will be set up at the Community Center from 10 – 3 PM.

The Grassroots Art Center will open its summer exhibit “Wood & Wire” which showcases musical instruments made by Arkansas folk artist Ed Stilley. Folk musician Jim Lee, Lincoln, NE, will perform at the Ed Stilley exhibit at 11 am. Kelly and Donna Mulhollan, Fayetteville, AR, will share stories about Stilley and play his instruments at 4:00 at the Lucas Area Community Theatre. The Stilley exhibit and both performances are free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted.  The performances are sponsored in part by Blue Gold Tours, Inc. and No Limit adventures, Inc., Lucas. Full tours of the Art Center are available for an admission charge.

Switchgrass Artist Cooperative will open at 10 with several artist members giving workshops and demonstrations. Artist Alan Vopat will be at his Da Da Muse ‘Um in the afternoon and Matt Farley’s “works in progress” can be viewed at his Old Blue Studio.

Bowl Plaza, the international winner of the “most quirky” public restroom, is open throughout the day, and the Garden of Eden is open 10-4.  Admission is charged.

Mri-Pilar, creator of The Garden of Isis inside the Deeble House, 126 S. Fairview, will be at her installation from 1-4 p.m., and next door, Barbara McCreery’s Diorama art and house will be open from 10 – 4.

Erika Nelson’s Roadside Sideshow Expo, 214 S Main, featuring the World’s Largest Collection of the World’s Smallest Versions of the World’s Largest Things, will be open 10–5.

The Kansas Post Rock Limestone Coalition will have a display at 205 S Main and is hosting a German Buffett Lunch from 11:30 – 1:00. A full buffet meal will be available for purchase or a la carte. Jon Pancost, Bluestem Quarry and Stone work, and coalition members will be available to talk about limestone preservation and architecture.

Visit Lucas on April 1st for Art, Music, Food, and Fun.
